What is refinishing?

Refinishing, resurfacing or re-glazing, is a comprehensive process by which an old, damaged or worn out surface, after being thoroughly prepared, is covered with a specialized chemical product in order to create a like-new look to the fixture. It can be done on bathtubs (bathtub refinishing), tiles (tile refinishing), countertops (countertop refinishing), sinks (sink refinishing) and cabinets (cabinet refinishing). This process adds many years to the life of the fixture and it is completed in place.

How long does the refinishing process take?

A 5-feet standard size bathtub, in normal conditions, takes only 3 to 5 hours to refinish. Countertops and tiles may take more or less the same length of time unless we were looking at much larger surfaces. The fixtures will typically be ready to use within 24 hours, or even sooner in some special conditions.

How long will a bathtub, countertop or ceramic tile refinished by American Refinishing Pros last?

With correct care and maintenance the useful life of your fixtures could be extended up to 10 to 15 years. We use the most technologically advanced procedures as well as top-of-the-line products, very durable materials that create a chemical bond between old and new surfaces, assuring you a long life for your refinished surface.

Do refinished tubs look painted?

The deep gloss of an American Refinishing Pros refinished bathtub will look like new porcelain. As a matter of fact, it will be hard to note the difference between a new bathtub and a tub refinished by America Refinishing Pros …our process is that good!

Is the finish of the bathtubs, tiles and countertops refinished by America Refinishing Pro smooth?

If bathtubs, tiles or countertops are refinished correctly and done with the proper products the finish should be totally smooth and sealed. Our top coat is shiny, smooth and with thick body, so the look is very similar, if not the same, as that of the bathtubs manufactured by the most reputable tub manufacturers in The United States like Kohler or American Standard.

How are refinishing costs compared to replacement costs?

Refinishing costs vary across the country but it will always be a fraction of the total cost of replacing a bathtub, ceramic tile surround, and vanity or kitchen countertop. Just as an example, a bathtub replacement and surround tiles can easily cost $3,500 or more since there is plumbing, dry-walling, painting, etc. involved. Refinishing will easily save you between 70% and 75% versus those costs! Kindly click on the following link for more information about the advantages of the bathtub refinishing procedure.

How many colors are available with refinishing?

America Refinishing Pros can match almost any existing color or create many custom color of your choosing. We also offer faux granite look in a variety of colors for countertops, vanities and tile surrounds.

Does refinishing have an odor?

Bathtub, tile and countertop refinishing topcoats contain solvents, which are necessary to make the finish hard and durable. We use a specially powerful ventilation system to exhaust odors from the work area to the outside. Most of the smell will go away within the first 4 to 5 hours and will be substantially gone within a day.

How does refinishing work on kitchen countertops?

Formica™ and tile countertops can all be updated and made to look like new with our refinishing procedure. Our faux granite finish is especially attractive and highly chosen by our clients. Does America Refinishing Pros offer a warranty?

All our jobs come with a warranty of one year minimum against peeling or other failure of adhesion of the new coating, however due to the high level of resistance of our products the average duration of a job done by America Refinishing Pros is of around 10 years. The warranty covers product, labor and workmanship on bathtubs, bathroom sinks, wall tile and fiberglass units. The warranty terms are printed on your invoice.

Does a refinished surface require special care?

Our care instructions are basically the same as for most brand new bathtubs. We recommend you use cleaners that are non-abrasive and contain no harsh acids. You can use Lysol, Formula 409, Pinesol, Mr. Clean or Fantastik. Most bathtubs, sinks and tiles become worn and dull due to abrasive cleaners, not from time. The refinished surface should not be cleaned with pure bleach, or put in contact with harsh acids or clog removers. Solid cleaners like Comet or Ajax should also be avoided since they are very abrasive and could ruin the finish.
